What was your favorite era of IL?

I spent 6 maybe 7 years in IL raiding EQ and I experienced every expansion from PoP through SoD with IL.

My favorite eras really come down to 2.

When I joined IL back in PoP there were over 100 members easily I'm sure. PoP raids were 72 max and when we did Time we always had an extra 15 or 20 every Saturday. The people back then were awesome. I really enjoyed all the personalities within the guild, especially Ferrien and Illithius. Ferrien lead raids and he was abrasive to say the least but it was very, very comical. A cleric app actually quit the guild when Ferrien berated him for being retarded in a public channel. I laughed... The guild was locked on then too. Everyone knew their class very good to stellar I would say. IL was a class act. We really had some great guildmates back then and IL had the best necro corps ever at the time of any guild, I don't say that lightly either.

My other favorite era was TSS when we merged with HUHU. People leave EQ all the time and it's a constant loss of friends going to other guilds or quitting the game. I can think back over hundreds of names that I regretted to see move on. After years of that it gets hard to deal with losing all those friends and entire eras of friends just gone. The huhu merger was the exact opposite though. I gained an entire guild worth of friends and no matter what disagreements there might have been over policies or loot for others I was happy as hell to welcome them all aboard. The immense amount of ass IL kicked was astounding. We walked right into Demi and cleared it before the final merger was even approved with 40 or more in the waiting channel. We had so many people in waiting we were ready to form a second raid. It was incredible. We finished Demi and went right to PoR finishing it very quickly, we briefly struggled with the 2nd event but once we had it down Ayonae was done... After that we pushed right into the Frost Giant side of TSS and raped event after event flagging everyone. The final event of 3 I believe before we were able to access the last tier of raids of the Giants was the only one that gave us any trouble. We spent maybe a week or 2 learning it and it was one of the best finishes I've seen in EQ. We farmed the Frost Giant side and moved on to the Ashengate raids owning them up at breakneck speed too. Outside of raids we were already finishing people up with flagging for Solteris. The Sister's event in Solteris was well known to be the separator between the men and the boys, it was more than the Redfang of the TBS expansion. We continued to farm TSS but we hit Sisters up everytime we had the people online to attempt it and their dps clickies were up. It took some time but we won and moved on to quickly beat the 2nd and 3rd encounters, then the 4th and it wasn't until the 2nd to last encounter where we started to struggle again. Raids were full then, people were eager to progress and Zarzac posted IL was the fastest progressing guild in EQ at the time because we weren't attempting 54 man raids with average 36 members anymore. We finished Solteris and from Demi to the start of SoF that was an amazing time in IL. Loot flowed like the mighty Mississippi in the spring thaw. I had a ton of friends all around to group with during raids and we destroyed 4 expansions in literally record setting time.

I don't know which was better, killing Quarm the first time or shortly after that the first noob who feel down the library elevator shaft to his death.

my favorite was charming animals in Commonlands back when level 50 was max and either buffing the shit out of them and zoning the coming back to watch the noobs get owned or..... giving the charmed mob thousands of copper and watching the noobs loot and get encumbered then get killed and come back and loot corpse and get encumbered again

that was good for lots of laughs

          My favorite EQ memories...

Soloing in Luclin with my mage Civin and the epic pet while full groups couldn't keep the same camps down.

Killing Lord Inquisitor Seru and getting my godforsaken earring. Soloing Seru a few expansions later on Zenlan. Killing Fabled Seru for his 1hander. (Stupid graphic everyone can have now aside from me on any weapon.)

Being in Havenlight through PoP. Actually I'll just say everything about PoP. It was probably the last expansion I was fully 110% vested in fun factor wise.

Shit why am I still playing.

I really liked it when IL and the game was more fluid. Watching for raid mobs to respawn, knowing when you and/or other guilds killed something so you could guess on the respawn. Engaging a raid mob 15 minutes after the first call was made to move there because waiting 20 minutes would be to watch CoP kill the mob. Participating in a kill at 4am because that's the time it was discovered up and there was enough online to do it. Logging in when you got home from work and being proud your guildies got to a kill before CoP or LD (instead of angry because you missed RA or BKP or something).

My favorite was doing plane of fire raids at the same time LD was doing Fennin Ro, and with the combined 200 people in zone the whole zone was going in slow motion. It didn't hurt us to bad because players weren't lagging, but the mobs were all lagged out. It was probably the easiest AMY kill ever because AMY was to lagged out to cast anything.

Some of the stuff when the game was more fluid and immersive imo were pretty cool. The guild competition thing never really appealed to me. If there would have been courtesy involved where yeah it's a race but if we beat you last time then you go for it I could have been cool with that but every guild hated the other guild because tards were so god damn greedy.

Guilds themselves were the biggest downfall of everquest imo. The ability to segragate a player or a group of players was what caused most of the strife in the game over raid mobs. I know some people feast on the competition but I personally never enjoyed fucking another guild over for a kill. I was in guilds that were on both sides. Everyone's quick to bitch when it happens to them but if they cock block some other guild oh well... fuck em.

I know guilds have a ton of perks and I enjoyed all of them. I just always liked the early days when I had a hundred friends and I could hang with any of them regardless of what guild they were in and I was a part of their group while I was with them. BoTS and KEG were both like that. BoTS let me roll on their Fear raids and KEG was KEG & friends. I was a KEG friend before they tossed me an invite.

High speed connections greatly helped the game, that and designing zones that wouldn't have multiple guilds .

I have so many good memories it is hard to pick one..

But one of my most memorable that still makes me chuckle was in FC and watching a Cleric whom we shall not name... heal a puller.. Mairiann announcing "incoming whole left side of the zone", Zarzac quickly followed with ... " Screw it Free For all" I was in Team Speak at the time with many of you all.. and the laughter and fun we had sorting out that mess was quite something.

We won the day btw on that.

... it is very nice to see alot of you at least doing well... I miss you all....

SSRA temple / vex thal / Pop was a blast. Farming the stupid ore in ssra, one of the officers gave a bonus bkp that was like .5 Teamsk which i was a part of, of corse! Started a huge flamewar through the guild about the injustice of it! Tramlok our fearless leader was super pissed and me komodon just helped feed his fire behind the scenes lol. Basically though teamsk did this every 2-3 weeks for over a year, and IL still thrived, all the infighting and hate towards the factions in the guild is really funny to look back at now. It pretty much made people better.

Whats funnier to me now is that Morin didnt like us and we didnt like him at the time and now were pretty good friends as far as the online game friends go. A big change from 5-6 years ago.

I have to say my favorite time in EQ was before I was in raiding guilds. When it was just me and my friends grouping up and killing stuff we had no business killing. Just working so well together.

As far as raiding with IL it is hard to pick a time. I joined around Anguish time and played hard core right up until just before we beat Frostcrypt. Banging our head in a few of those expansions in between was a rollercoaster, but it always felt good to stick it out and finally break through on the tough events.

I finally came to a spot in my life that didn't have room for the game. I tried to come back one time without success, but I was glad to have played with a lot of really great people, both in and out of IL.

I loved farming frostcrypt and ashengate. We really did get some killer times in those events. And they were always entertaining. The solteris era was really a lot of fun as well. I really liked the group of people that were apart of IL , always many lols to be had, and just an overall great team.

Hope you all are kicking ass, I am returning shortly.

                              psh

I missed the old patch days and logging in super early to raid for 10+ hours and kill pretty much every dragon in velious(like 10+ of em) and clear NToV and faction bosses before anyone else could get more than a couple of them at most. Steamrolling NE/DBN/CoP etc back then was quite fun.

Later it became essentially the same thing in Ssra and such. That first Emp kill was still pretty epic. Watching the huge flamethread over it after CoP called in the GM on cursed, while we went to Emp was funny too. Aten kills at 6-7am.....ah memories. Spending a long time farming shards/ore for keys/weaps...joy. PoP was actually rather fun too with the sheer amount of content and progression there was. I always loved the guild competition myself. Once it started going to instanced zones and such, it really lost it's luster in a hurry.
