I read about this before it ever came out and it sounded interesting... It's a server devoted to bringing back EQ exactly the way it was (or at least very, very close) to the way it was originally.

I remade Cathan as a necro and I'm up to level 7! It really is authentic. There are some changes that were made just for the sake of playability (such as the ui). Personally I would have preferred the original UI as an option but I'm a masochist and honestly, I never thought it was that bad. I guess walking to school up hill in the snow both ways never bothered me...

It gets even better though, at least imo... The community feels like what original EQ felt like. For anyone that wasn't there the first year of EQ before Kunark even, EQ was an extremely unique experience. I don't know how they managed to recapture it but it's there, just the way people interact and are there to play the game, help each other etc etc.

For me, it's incredible seeing items like Oracle robes being something awesome again. I can't even describe how insane my first hill giant kill will be...

Ferrien is playing as Dospax I think is his name. Serinde from CoP is over there. FoH people or at least forum members of their site have a page in the MMORPG forum with a list of all players' names in game. They created a guild called, "The Black Hand".

I tried Runes of Magic, some free mmo and it's ok. It was fun the first few levels but then I see shit like mobs don't roam with crossing paths. It's impossible to get aggro off someone else's train. It's your own stupidity if you aggro multiple mobs. All that candy ass shit removed most of the danger and excitement.

I died 7x in level 2 at the newbie log in nektulos and I fucking loved it. Even EQ got dumbed down, especially in PoP.

Best part about this is I can actually play casually when I want until I want to raid. I think the only downside to p1999 is you only get 1 account so no 2 boxing. From what I understand MQ doesn't work because it wasn't written for original EQ. I think that's a plus. You can petition for a 2nd account because they block a single ip from logging in multiple characters and they do that for people that share an IP.

Anyway, check it out if you're interested. /friend Cathan and look me up if so.

The missions are a realistic time scale, the armor creation is the best one yet, the spell turn in is the best yet, the strength of mercs is excellent for when you have to solo, Necros are back to probably the best DPS again and are insane.

Come back it will be fun !

Cathan,

I played P99.

It's not fun, the grind is rediculous - I could see how much fun it may be at level 50 - but it is BORING.

If you want a good eqemulator server and don't want to come back to life - Play on Scars of Amerous - the playerbase is small but the server is AMAZING.

Valmo and I have the 24 best geared characters on that server, undisputed.

Logic(toon in IL) is one of the three owners of the server aswell ;)

Scars of Amerous isn't too active last I saw. Logic, myself, Upper, Copyright, Monorail and others were at one point the big raid crew over there. Some of us were devs and GMs and made quests/items etc. It has some awesome raid stuff though, the Tier progression is really sexy too.

P1999 got boring fast for me, the nostalgia part was great for a couple weeks but after that I just got bored.

HoT + necro = fun as hell right now. Might be most fun I'm having anytime in EQ except as Ranger main in PoP or Scars of Amerous during peak play for some awesome raiders.

That part of it is fun. You /ooc (serverwide on Emu) for some help as a lvl 25 and get 3 tells after one try from level 50's looking to help.

Partially because they are stuck at 50 and bored probably :p

Is Cere or Brent playing regular eq with yall? Some people hate AA's... Me I love em! I bet Tameron has about 10000 now right?

I dabbled with p99 for a time. A few notes to add to what's been said about it thus far:

1) It's not entirely authentic in some key ways. One is factions: generally, the factions have erred on the side of being more forgiving. An Erudite Necro is not KOS to Qeynos Guards by default. A Troll Shaman of Innoruuk is not KOS to Freeport Militia. (Both are very low dubious, but still non-KOS). (In fact, Erudite Necroes are non-KOS to every NPC in Qeynos, even the Priests of Life!)

2) It's shockingly easy to get to level 50 if you hit the right camps in the right zones. The Zone Exp Modifiers have been fabricated from nothing, and some aren't at all faithful to original EQ (a 213% mod in Crushbone, for example). Racial and class exp penalties ARE in the game, but overall, it's still easier to level on p99 than it was on the live servers in the year '99. Part of that is the more generous zone exp mods, and another part is probably that players aren't noobs now, so everyone knows what to do.

3) Global OOC was removed from the server around the last time that I played it due to general player disapproval, circa May 2010. Part of the old-school experience was running through vast zones and sometimes being the only person there, and that feeling has (authentically) been returned with the excision of the de facto General Chat of p99.

The #1 thing this server is missing, to truly replicate '99, is the insane population EQ had. Yes the server sometimes sees numbers up to 600+ players, however that is a drop in the bucket compared to the 2-3k that would be online at any given time back in '99.

I don't see why people would want to put up with all the shitty aspects of '99, without the greatest thing... the players!

If anyone ever wants to log in to the SoA server and mess around send Serona a tell -- I hear he has some leet skeet characters!~
