Sounds like the disk might be scratched or something and cd drive can't read the disk.I would create a sony directory on you c drive and download the eq trilogy and update.

Which version of Vista?
We can set up a remote session where I can take control of your machine and see what the problem may be.
However here is how I install on a Vista machine.
Go here.
http://download.station.sony.com/patch/download/eq/EtNInstaller.exe
This will download the EQ installer. It is 235MB.
Run this as ADMINISTRATOR
It will install EQ and patch.
If this does not fix your problem I can look at your machine remotely.
You will also need to install DirectX 9.0c
Yes you can install it on a Vista Machine, without it EQ will not work.
Get it from here.

MAIRIANNE!!!!!!!!!!! How ya been girl? Drc has you all hooked up on vista. I intalled it from the patcher.....takes forever to download but it works. Directx 9.0c is a must for any machine to run EQ.

Vista = thesuck
That comment = ignorant.
However, on point for the thread, did you get your issues resolved? It could very possibly be a security issue that's causing you problems. You can also try copying the everquest.exe file to a new directory and running that. That's how I actually do a clean EQ install when I need to, it will patch the entire game from there.

The only real gripe I have with vista is that it is permission happy and a memory hog but that is overcome after a few setting adjustments.

It is a memory hog.
But 7RC 64 bit is much better at memory control.
My machine has 8GB and 7RC barely touchs 3GB of it even with EQ, Game Parse, and a dozen other programs running.
Just for grins I loaded FS-X and EQ in windowed mode.
Both ran at very decent FPS.
My normal FPS for EQ is around 90 and for FS-X around 75.
With them both running EQ was 78 and FS-X was 63
This is all from a modifed off the shelf Walmart box a HP a6703w
Dual Core AMD 5200 at 2.7Ghz
8GB Ram (Came with 5GB)
ATI Radeon HD 4670 (Overclocked)
Windows EXP Index 6.0
With less than 1000 bucks invested.

It really isn't until someone finds a way for my keyboard to actually work properly in EQ under vista when it works fine on every other Windows OS :P Certain keys will just NOT work in vista IN EQ ;)

Vista is actually a really good operating system you just have to get used to some differences and read up on it. But it will be ok windows is downgrading to Windows 7 soon I have a machine with windows 7 on it and it runs smooth enough.

Not sure what to say there - I've EQ'd on windows and never had any trouble at all. I've heard rumors that certain manufacturer's have issues with Vista, but I don't know if you're running a home build, or an HP or something like that.
Home build and Dell both had no problems with any keys for Vista and EQ.
